Responsibilities
The Controller will serve as the financial backbone of the studio—responsible for overseeing accounting operations, ensuring compliance, and partnering with leadership to drive data-informed decisions. You’ll work closely with the executive team to support growth, profitability, and long-term sustainability.
This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in a dynamic, collaborative environment and enjoys translating financial complexity into clarity and strategy.
- Oversee all aspects of accounting operations, including general ledger, A/R, A/P, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Partner with the CEO and executive team to provide insight into financial performance, cash flow, and forecasting.
- Manage annual budgets and long-range financial planning.
- Lead the audit and tax processes in coordination with external partners.
- Implement and maintain accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks Online and Namely) and recommend process improvements for scalability.
- Collaborate with contacts at Namely on the management of payroll execution
- Support publisher reporting, milestone tracking, and revenue recognition related to game sales, licensing, and partnerships.
- Oversee compliance with federal and state financial regulations.
- Coordinating with external auditors as needed.
- Mentor and grow the finance team as the studio scales.

Qualifications
Must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA a plus but not required.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with 2+ years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Nice to have:
- Experience in entertainment, media, gaming, or tech industries.
- Proven ability to manage budgets, forecasts, and cash flow in a project-based environment.
- Experience with Jira or Slack.
- Understanding of GAAP and financial reporting best practices.
- Familiarity with TEMIIP guidelines
